THE STUDENT
A quality, experienced Taekwon-do instructor understands that earning a black belt is not one-size-fits-all. People learn differently:
People learn differently
Move differently
Grow differently
Mature differently
However, individuality cannot become an excuse for the absence of standards. The standards must remain common. The journey to reach them may look different, but the benchmark is the benchmark.
Some students progress through athleticism, others through discipline, others through repetition, and some through sheer resilience and determination. And yet, when clubs lower standards to protect feelings, hit timelines, boost retention, or satisfy ego, they don’t create genuine martial artists, they sell rank and create members that cannot protect themselves when it matters!!
A black belt should not mean:
Last Sunday marked another milestone for our club as we attended a successful coloured belt grading at North Leamington School in the T-UK Central area. We want to extend our congratulations to all 26 members who participated in this event.
At Warwick & Leamington TKD, we pride ourselves on our progressive and effective improvement program designed to prepare every student for grading. This structured approach ensures that each member receives the guidance and training they need to excel. Our assessment process adheres to strict standards, allowing us to select students who are truly ready for promotion. This rigorous preparation is key to building confidence and skill in our members.
We are pleased to announce that we will be starting a new class at Campion School, Sydenham in the new year.
The new class will be a joint venture between Warwick TKD and North Leamington TKD, both clubs are affiliated to the T-UK Association and will be on Friday nights from 6.30 - 7.30pm.
