The Valsalva maneuver is performed by forceful attempted exhalation against a closed airway, usually done by closing one's mouth, pinching one's nose shut while pressing out as if blowing up a balloon. This is also present under exertion during severe coughing, straining on the toilet, blowing musical instruments (trumpet), bodybuilding, giving birth and exercise! The exercise element is the part I want to concentrate on, but first we need to understand the mechanics of what is going on!

Yesterday saw the first of the new regional black belt training sessions in the Central area bringing the 2 black belt clubs, Warwick and Stratford, together. Mr Archer, Mr Noddings and Mr Dhillon delivering instruction in patterns, technical kicking and sparring. A good turn out considering it was still the Easter holidays, a great platform to work from and great to see the effort and enthusiasm from the participants.
The next session is planned for the 4th June in Warwick, get the date into your diaries.
