Yesterday, Warwick and Leamington Taekwondo had the privilege of delivering a c corporate self-defence day for the staff of Premia Solutions, a prominent car insurance company based in Warwick. This event took place at the scenic Saltisford Canal Centre, providing an ideal setting for our workshops.
Understanding the Need for Self-Defence
In today’s world, awareness of personal safety is more crucial than ever. With an average of 145 violent and sexual crimes reported monthly in the Warwick and Leamington area, it’s essential for individuals to equip themselves with the knowledge and skills to navigate risky situations. Our workshops aimed to enhance this awareness, focusing not only on physical self-defence techniques but also on cultivating a proactive mindset.
A Day of Learning and Growth
Throughout the day, participants engaged in small group workshops that fostered interaction and personal development. We covered several key areas, including:
Safety Awareness in Daily Life: Participants learned how to identify potential risks in their environments, from public spaces to workplace scenarios. Understanding one’s surroundings is the first step in preventing dangerous situations.
Identifying and Avoiding Risk Situations: We discussed common scenarios that could lead to conflict or danger, equipping attendees with strategies to avoid these situations. This proactive approach is vital in reducing the likelihood of confrontation.
Introduction to Effective Physical Self-Defence Skills: While our primary focus was on awareness, we also taught essential physical techniques that can be employed if the need arises. These skills empower individuals to respond confidently and effectively in threatening situations.
The Importance of Awareness and Understanding
One of the most valuable aspects of our workshops was the focus on conversations surrounding awareness and the understanding of the violent mindset. By exploring the psychology behind aggression and violence, participants gained insight into how to de-escalate potential confrontations.
This understanding is crucial; the ultimate goal of self-defence is not to engage in physical altercations but to avoid them altogether. By fostering a heightened sense of awareness and developing critical thinking skills, participants can navigate their environments with confidence, potentially diminishing the need for physical intervention.
Building Confidence and Essential Life Skills
As the day progressed, we witnessed participants transforming into more confident individuals, equipped with not only self-defence techniques but also a deeper understanding of personal safety. The skills learned during this workshop are not just applicable in extreme scenarios; they are essential life skills that empower individuals in everyday situations.
At Warwick and Leamington TKD, we are committed to promoting safety and confidence within our community. We are proud to have partnered with Premia Solutions for this event and look forward to continuing our mission of educating and empowering individuals and companies that take their employees safety seriously through self-defence training.
